Swiss-roll fuel reformer

Principal Investigator
Krishna Sesha Giri
Associate Professor

Brief Details

The project involves development of a recuperative heat transfer based fuel reformer for converting hydrocarbon fuels to hydrogen. The Swiss-roll heat exchanger achieves super adiabatic flame temperatures which drive the reduction of water vapor to hydrogen while oxidising the carbon in the fuel. Preliminary studies have shown around 13% vol. of hydrogen in the reformate proving the possibility of operating a reformer with lower hydrocarbon fuels which is hitherto unexplored.
